Participants from different continents gathered for the Strong Advice’s Leadership Effectiveness Workshop at the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers on March 30th. The hotel which is one of the oldest luxury hotels in the emirate, sits next to the historic Dubai Creek – a heritage that shows both the history and transformation of Dubai. Such a combination of nature, architectural beauty and excellent programming created a superb and unforgettable learning experience.
The workshop focused on leadership processes and the best practices that produce results using Wiley’s Everything DiSC Work of Leaders – a self-assessment tool. The tool was used to help the participating leaders to better understand themselves. Their individual profiles allowed them to reflect about how their natural behaviors (strengths and challenges) impact their effectiveness in their leadership roles.
During the workshop, the participants were shown ways to improve their leadership practices in order to get better results. As one participant noted, “I am finally able to clearly see the gaps in my leadership style and the things I need to do if I want to work to improve the quality of my leadership.”
The experience was further enriched by the willingness and openness of participants in sharing both the good and the bad of their leadership experiences! Many had moments of self-humour as they began to realise how they could have avoided some of the mistakes made in their past leadership efforts and practices. One participant who has been in leadership for over four decades said, “I wish I had taken part in this workshop 40 years ago. I wouldn't have made some of the mistakes I made.”
While facilitating the many discussions and activities, Mr Mike Strong helped the group see how they can still change an entire organization’s performance without necessarily changing the staff. He equipped participants with skills that are needed to take the Everything DiSC Work of Leaders framework back to their various places of work and use it to empower people, lead change and engineer positive transformation. According to a participant, “the greatest highlight of this workshop, is how Mike masterfully created an environment where discussion and sharing thrive. This is a stroke of genius and it takes Mike Strong to do that.”
When asked how valuable the workshop was, a participant said that she would recommend the workshop to her associates because of how it is immediately useful and provides a measurable response for guiding improvement. Another participant shared: “I would definitely recommend the workshop for those who want to strengthen their leadership skills. I have been equipped with new and relevant competences that are needed for the further development of my leadership career.”
